Darwinex Zero or a live Darwinex account: which route suits you?

Darwinex Zero or a live Darwinex account: which route suits you?
10:08

Darwinex Zero suits traders who want to build a verified track record on virtual capital, paying a subscription instead of risking their own money. A live Darwinex account suits traders with capital they can afford to put at risk who want to keep their own trading profits; there is no subscription fee, but trading costs apply. Both routes produce a DARWIN that investors can assess, and a Zero DARWIN that meets the migration criteria can later move to a live account with its record intact.

Is Darwinex Zero a prop firm?

No. Darwinex Zero is a paid membership in which you trade virtual capital to build a verified track record that investors can see, so you don't need trading capital of your own and there is no pass-or-fail challenge. The route to capital runs through monthly DarwinIA allocations and, for strategies that earn it, external investors, with performance fees paid on gains.

We put it plainly: "This isn't a prop challenge." Here is how the membership works:

  • Membership: a subscription billed monthly or yearly, which you can cancel whenever you want. Current prices are on the Darwinex Zero pricing page.
  • Your DARWIN: after a short period of trading activity on the virtual account, your strategy gets a DARWIN, an investable index built from your track record.
  • DarwinIA: every DARWIN enters Darwinex's monthly DarwinIA allocation programme automatically. More on how this differs by route below.
  • Performance fees: members receive performance fees on gains, calculated on a high-water mark, so fees only accrue on new highs.
  • External investors: separately from DarwinIA, independent investors can allocate to a DARWIN with a credible record. Darwinex's INDX portfolio also allocates third-party capital to leading DARWINs.

Two points are worth keeping apart. DarwinIA allocations come from Darwinex's own allocation programme, while investor capital comes from outside investors who choose your DARWIN. Neither is promised, and both depend on how your strategy actually behaves.

Verification here means your results are recorded and published from your trading account, not reconstructed from screenshots. It is not an independent audit.

What a live Darwinex account is

A live Darwinex account is a brokerage account funded with your own money. Your trading on it builds a DARWIN from your live track record, which investors can assess in the same way as a DARWIN built on Darwinex Zero.

There is no subscription fee on this route. You pay trading costs instead, such as commissions, spreads and overnight swaps, and your capital is at risk: losses come out of your own balance. Darwinex sets out its current trading costs in its help centre.

Both routes lead to the same thing: a DARWIN that investors can assess. What differs is whose money is at risk and how you pay for access.

Virtual capital versus live capital: what changes

The strategy can be identical on both routes. What changes is whose money absorbs the outcome. On a live account, three things are different.

  1. Every cost is yours. On a live Darwinex account you pay commission, the spread and overnight swaps. Spreads are not fixed, and they can widen when liquidity thins, for example around major economic releases.
  2. Losses come out of your balance. A gap through a stop is a real loss, and it has to be rebuilt before you are back to where you were. That is a reason to size positions for the most volatile sessions, not the quiet ones.
  3. The profit is yours too. If a trade works, you keep the gain, not just a share of a fee. For a trader with capital who already trades well, that is the strongest argument for going live.

What stays the same is how your record is judged. Whether the DARWIN sits on virtual or live capital, an investor reading it will look at the same things: how deep the drawdowns went in volatile periods, whether risk per trade stayed consistent, and whether one lucky trade carried the month. A record that doubles its exposure whenever markets turn volatile reads badly on either route.

Which route suits you?

There is no right answer for everyone, but the choice usually comes down to capital, costs and what you want to prove.

Darwinex Zero tends to suit you if:

  • you want a verified track record without putting trading capital at risk
  • you need more margin than you have ready to deploy
  • you would rather pay a subscription than trading costs on a live balance while you prove yourself
  • you want to be in DarwinIA every month from the start

A live Darwinex account tends to suit you if:

  • you have capital you can afford to put at risk and want to keep your own trading profits
  • you would rather pay trading costs than a subscription
  • you already have a record you are confident in and want it built on real money

How track-record migration works

You don't have to choose for ever. A Zero DARWIN can be migrated to a live Darwinex account, and its full track record, DarwinIA status and ratings move with it. According to the Darwinex Zero help centre:

  • your DARWIN must have received an allocation, or returned at least 2% over the last five months
  • you open a real Darwinex account and deposit at least 1,000 USD, EUR or GBP
  • only the CFD account type can be migrated, and some countries are restricted
  • migration is irreversible and cancels your Zero subscription, though you can restart Zero to run a new DARWIN in parallel
  • open trades must be closed before the weekend the migration runs

Once live, there is no subscription fee. You trade with your own capital and pay trading costs instead, and that capital is at risk.

How DarwinIA differs on each route

DarwinIA is Darwinex's own allocation programme. On both routes it is separate from external investor capital, and allocations are earned on merit, never guaranteed.

  • On Darwinex Zero: every DARWIN enters the monthly DarwinIA SILVER programme automatically as part of the membership. DARWINs that meet stricter return, drawdown and history criteria move up to DarwinIA GOLD, where allocations are larger and last six months.
  • On a live Darwinex account: DARWINs can take part subject to the eligibility criteria in the DarwinIA terms and conditions.
  • After migration: a Zero DARWIN's DarwinIA status moves with it to the live account.

What to look for in a prop firm alternative with investor capital or performance fees

If you are comparing routes to capital, a few questions separate a lasting path from a one-off challenge:

  • Is there a pass-or-fail evaluation? A route built on a continuous track record lets one bad week sit in context rather than end the account.
  • Can investors see your record? Capital follows evidence. A public, verified record that outside investors can assess is worth more than a private dashboard.
  • How are performance fees calculated? Look for a high-water mark, so fees are paid on new gains rather than on recovering old losses.
  • Is allocated capital kept distinct from investor capital? You should know which money comes from the platform's own programme and which from outside investors.
  • Who regulates the business, and are the costs clear? Membership fees, trading costs and any account restarts should be stated up front.
  • Can the record grow with you? A path from virtual to live capital, without losing your history, matters if you plan to trade for years.

The last point matters most. One good month is a single data point. What allocators and investors want is to see how a strategy behaved across many different market conditions.

FAQ

Is Darwinex Zero a prop firm? No. It is a paid membership in which you trade virtual capital to build a verified track record. There is no pass-or-fail challenge, and capital comes through monthly DarwinIA allocations and, potentially, external investors.

Do I need my own money to use Darwinex Zero? No trading capital is needed. You pay a membership subscription and trade a virtual account. Current prices are on the Darwinex Zero pricing page.

Does a live Darwinex account have a subscription fee? No. There is no subscription fee on the broker route, but trading costs such as commissions, spreads and swaps apply, and your capital is at risk.

Can I move my Darwinex Zero track record to a live account? Yes, if your DARWIN meets the migration criteria. The full track record, DarwinIA status and ratings carry over, and the Zero subscription ends.

Is a DarwinIA allocation the same as investor capital? No. DarwinIA allocations come from Darwinex's monthly allocation programme. Investor capital comes from outside investors who choose to allocate to your DARWIN.
